Phone Tapping Case: Prabhakar Rao Appears Before SIT

Former Special Investigation Bureau chief Prabhakar Rao appeared before SIT for questioning on Monday morning. He is being questioned in SIT’s Jubilee Hills office.

He is appearing before SIT after 15 months and his testimony is awaited as it will provide vital clues in the phone tapping case.

Prabhakar Rao, a prime accused in the case went away to the US and tried to get asylum there as a political refugee. After the US authorities declined his plea, he was forced to return to India.

He landed in Hyderabad on Sunday night and a group of 70 bouncers made sure that no one came near him at Shamshabad Airport. He reached his house with a convoy of bouncers and did not talk to the media.

Prabhakar Rao came back after the Supreme Court gave him interim relief from arrest. He is wanted in alleged illegal surveillance during the BRS regime.

With Rao’s return, all six accused have been questioned or taken into custody.
