
The new ruling of Supreme Court with regards to SC, ST Atrocities Act is like a slap on the face of those misusing the Act.
The Apex Court has made it clear that henceforth it is mandatory to show that a SC, ST person has been bad mouthed publicly and intentionally.

The new ruling was based on a case wherein a government official made caste-based abuse on a subordinate within the four walls of his chamber. At the time, no one else was in the room. Only after the incident, the colleagues of the abused came into the room. The Court felt if abuse happens within a house or private office, it does not come under ‘within public view’.
While the law has been passed to safeguard the interests of SC, ST people, many are misusing the Act and wasting precious time of officials and courts, the Court felt.
