According to the survey by an online media channel, the ruling Congress is expected to have a clean sweep in the urban municipalities. As per the survey, Revanth Reddy’s aggressive campaigning seems to have worked on the psyche of Telangana people.
The survey says Congress has an upper hand in Manchiryal, Ramagundam, Kothagudem, Mahbubnagar and Nalgonda. The survey further said that the situation will be hung in Nizamabad and Karimnagar. But the big jolt is for opposition BRS. According to the pre-poll survey, BRS is said to be the big loser. The survey says there is a strong tilt towards the Congress.
In Karimnagar, the survey predicted a hung situation. In the past, BRS won the mayor post. Even if the final outcome is hung, the BRS could win the mayor seat once again. Bandi Sanjay’s campaigning is likely to help the BJP. The BRS party on the other hand faces charges of corruption by the corporator and sidelining development. As for Congress, lack of coordination among members was the shortcoming, the survey found.
In Mahbubnagar, the mayor seat is likely to go to the Congress. There is sympathy for the local candidate NP Venkatesh who lost out in getting a MLA and DCC seat. His daughter Nehasri is contesting the poll. Also, there is strong Mudiraj and cadre support locally. The name of Anand Kumar Prasanna is making rounds for the mayor’s post.
In Nizamabad, the situation is hung for now. However, Congress appears to have an upper hand. MIM’s support and welfare schemes are expected to help the party. For the BJP, MP Arvind is a strong influence. On the other hand, BRS is trying to find its foothold in the area.
In Manchiryal too, BRS is set to lose out to the ruling Congress for mayor’s post. MLA Premsagar Rao’s role has turned crucial for the ruling party. BRS is lagging behind while BJP is facing group war within the party.
In Ramagundam, BRS got the mayor’s post with the support of AIFB. Now, the tables have turned and the ruling Congress appears to have an upper hand. Thr survey found that the Congress is all set to win the mayor’s post. Followers of Ponguleti Srinivas are likely to get the post. Dr BS Rao is the most likely candidate for mayor’s post.
Congress announced its mayor candidate and this is likely to help the party’s chances, says the Survey.
The BRS lagged behind the Congress in panchayat polls. According to the survey, BRS could be the big loser in municipal polls. Lack of coordination in the party and lackluster campaigning could result in a hard blow to BRS which was betting big on municipal elections.
Political analysts say BRS party’s performance in municipal elections will surely have an impact on its chances during the next Assembly elections.
Being a regional party with no friendly alliances seem to be proving costly for BRS. Another big factor is lack of proper leadership and acting in silos.
Citizens of Telangana who voted for the party for two terms don’t see a viable leader who can hold the party together. Telangana citizens are watching that KCR’s farmhouse strategy, KTR and Harish Rao lacking strong leadership qualities are not going to help the party, say political analysts.
