The ruling Congress is aiming to win all seven corporations in the ZPTC polls. State-level leaders have been assigned responsibilities to ensure success. The party has decided to adopt different strategies based on local conditions.
Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Nalgonda, Kothagudem, Manchiryala, Mahbubnagar and Ramagundem corporations will go to polls. Earlier, only Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Ramagundem had corporation status. This time, four more areas have been upgraded.
Uttam Kumar Reddy and Tummala Nageswar Rao have been made in-charge of Karimnagar and Nizamabad. These areas are witnessing a three-way fight between BJP, BRS and Congress. Since Congress had weak presence earlier, the party is focusing strongly here.
Tummala Nageswar Rao, Ministers Sridhar Babu, Ponnam Prabhakar and Adluri Laxman have been told to treat the campaign as prestigious. BJP MP Bandi Sanjay and BRS leader Gangula Karunakar are actively campaigning. Hence, Congress leaders have been asked to put in extra effort.
PCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud is overseeing Nizamabad, while CM Revanth Reddy is handling Mahbubnagar. Nalgonda falls under Minister Komatireddy’s leadership. In Nizamabad, Sudarshan Reddy and Shabbir Ali are also involved in campaign work.
In Mahbubnagar, some divisions are facing triangular contests, while BRS has a strong hold in others. In Nalgonda, Komatireddy announced 45 candidates out of 48 divisions within a day. Congress is confident of creating history in Nalgonda.
In Kothagudem, CPI is seeking 27 divisions, and Congress is open to seat sharing with friendly parties. In Ramagundam and Manchiryala, coal workers form a major vote base. The government is highlighting welfare measures implemented in the last two years.
CM Revanth Reddy, who is currently in the US, has asked leaders to carefully select candidates. Lok Sabha in-charges have been asked to monitor preparations. According to sources, the CM will return on February 3 and begin district tours soon. He will be in Manchiryala on February 3, in Jagityala on 4, 5th in Chevella, 6th in Bhupalapally, 7th in Medak and 8th in Nizamabad. However, the schedule will be finalised after Revanth Reddy returns from the US.
