Telangana Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav categorically stated that the elections for GHMC will take place in February. Earlier the high court ordered the government to complete the elections by December. We will have to see if the high court agrees for this delay.

The ruling party intentionally delayed the elections in the name of delimitation so as to buy time to strengthen itself in the region. But now after several months getting wasted, the government declared that the delimitation is not possible and the old system will exist for this time.
GHMC area with 24 Assembly constituencies holds key for the government to have grip on the capital. TRS just managed 3 MLAs here. TDP-BJP combine managed majority MLAs with the help of the settlers. Hence the ruling party is encouraging defections from other parties to strengthen itself here.
