Telugu Desam Party has turned 43 today. The Party withered many storms over the years and stood the test of the time.
Telugu Desam Party is always a Sensation. Be it coming to Power with a Sensational Majority of 202/294 in just nine months of starting the Party, be it staging a sensational comeback from 23 to 130 seats, TDP‘s journey has been always phenomenal.
The Party had witnessed unprecedented lows as well. We have seen the earth-shattering incidents like Nadendla Bhaskar Rao‘s Coup, NT Ramarao‘s dethroning, and the state bifurcation crisis.
Every time when people thought the party is finished, TDP staged surprising comeback every single time.
When Nadendla Bhaskar Rao overthrew NT Ramarao when he is away in the United States for a Heart Surgery, People revolted and did not relent until NTR is back in power.
As far as NT Ramarao‘s dethroning is concerned, NTR and TDP are synonyms. It is impossible to imagine the Telugu Desam Party without NT Ramarao. It happened and TDP survived.
The State Bifurcation has been the biggest modern day crisis for the Party. The party was cornered from all sides but people of Andhra Pradesh chose the Party to steer themselves out of crisis.
Like that, TDP always stood the test of the time and today is in a remarkable phase by being in Power in Andhra Pradesh leading a 164/175 Government and being instrumental in the Narendra Modi Government‘s Third Term.
In the middle of this, there is still a big problem that is plaguing the party post 2000. The party had picked up a bad habit.
TDP looks deadly in the Opposition but becomes meek in Power.
It is easy for the Party to come to Power from Opposition but it is getting difficult for the Party in coming to Power from being in Power.
The last time TDP came to Power in Two consecutive terms is way back in 1999. That means the party is yet to do the feat in 2000s.
The party should get rid of this bad habit somehow.
In fact, coming to Power back to back is not easy these days. That has become even difficult down the South where welfare plays a crucial role.
The promises have become so big but the resources to cater the ever-increasing population have become so sparse. And then, People have become so reactive that they easily get unhappy and that makes re-elections very difficult.
But then, it is very important for Regional Parties to remain in Power for at least two terms because of the growing trend of Vendetta Politics. Only then, the cadre, leaders, and the parties can survive.
This is a Big Opportunity for TDP because there is unprecedented negativity on Jagan Mohan Reddy as visible through 2024 results. It will be TDP‘s mistake if that gets forgotten in just five years.
