The Telangana BJP calls the Telangana Congress ‘kappala takkeda’ (a humourous take on the plight of a person trying to weigh live frogs) with regards to internal fighting in the party.
But the fight within the saffron party is worse, confide party insiders. There are as many groups as the petals in a lotus, say the insiders. It does not come as a surprise as the BJP has not been able to decide on a party chief in Telangana!
In the eight MPs and 8 MLAs, all are said to be vying to become party chief and talk is that none of them see eye to eye. Meanwhile, the party top leaders have narrowed down on three names. During elections, the BJP promised to make a BC CM and they are trying to appease the BCs and hanging on to the concept of social engineering. On the other hand, Mudiraj, Munnuru Kapu (BC), Madiga (SC) – the BJP is also pushing the 3M formula.
However, two names in the fray are that of Eatala Rajender and Bandi Sanjay. One is a Mudiraj and the other is Munnuru Kapu. Bandi has already served as state president and is now the Union State Minister. So, the top leaders are said to be considering Eatala. But the problem here is that of the old and new.
And the old members have opposed a new member being considered. Also according to party rule book, a person who is a member for 10 times and active member for at least 3 times can become the president. The same problem cropped up during the election of Annamalai as the state president in Tamil Nadu. He came to the party in 2017. At the time, the BJP central leaders appeased the local leaders.
Will BJP repeat the same procedure in Telangana? All-India party president JP Nadda, chief secretary Santosh and state in-charge Sunil Bansal submitted reports to the higher-ups, according to party sources.
