The Stamps and Registration department of Telangana government has pulled off a stunner after digitizing all the land documents in Hyderabad including those as old as 1800s during the Nizam’s rule. The department had digitized close to 6,000 volumes, amounting to a whopping four lakh land documents in Hyderabad. Utmost care has gone in to this exercise since such old documents often tend to crumble with a touch.
With this success, the department is now planning to extend this exercise to the entire state. According to an estimation. the 10 districts will have over 10,000 volumes of more than 10 lakh documents.
Digitization of documents will save lot of money and effort of storing and protecting huge quantities of paper. However this is a very costly project and the Telangana government is planning to approach Government of India seeking funding help.
