The state government has requested the Supreme to allot the waters once again taking in to consideration Telangana’s drinking, irrigation and power needs. However Supreme Court bench comprising of Justice Mukopadhyay and Justice NV Ramana invoked the ‘Not Before’ since NV Ramana belongs to Andhra Pradesh (Krishna district) and he felt that he is not the right person to judge the petition.

It is known that the water dispute arose after Telangana government has started producing power from Srisailam Left Canal which will deplete the water in the reservoir and will cause drinking water problems for Rayalaseema and some parts of Southern Telangana in the coming summer.
