Telangana jails target 100 Crore income

Telangana income 2015Telangana Prisons are not confined to being bringing reforms in prisoners but also empowering them to earn some money by doing productive activies inside the jails. The prisoners in Telangana jail produce almost every thing from steel chairs to wooden furniture, soaps to pooja material, carpets, bed sheets, towels, baked goods and so on.

Jail authorities are planning to set up stores with these produces. Apart from the Chanchalguda Central Prison, the jails in Mahbubnagar, Warangal, Karimnagar and Nalgonda have makeshift shops of 15X12 feet dimensions. Any one can visit these stores run by inmates and can buy the produces.

Currently the shop at the petrol bunk near the Chanchalguda Central Prison is most profitable one. The department is earning Rs 2 crore per annum from it. The department is drawing up plans to generate revenue of Rs 100 crore from the Telangana prison in the next 10 years.
