Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao may be heading one of the wealthiest states in the country but that does not fullfill KCR’s dream of having a new state of the art secretariat. The Chief Minister had earlier considered Erragadda Chest hospital lands, Bison Polo Grounds and Hitech City government lands but none of them helped finally.

The Chief Minister is now eyeing the nearly 700-acre Begumpet airport, one of the oldest airfields in the country to setup the secretariat. 690 acre was under the possession of the Begumpet airport. Of which, 357 acre land is in the Hyderabad district jurisdiction and remaining 333 acre land in Ranga Reddy district.

A survey of this lands was recently conducted and it was submitted to the government along with the map of the airport. In case the government do not use it for Secretariat, the land will still come in handy for skyscrapers or housing for the poor. commercial operations of the Begumpet Airport were closed in 2008 after Shamshabad Airport opened. However the airport is still being by VVIP, private flying clubs and the Indian Air Force.
