
A 32-yr-old Telugu man Vidyasagar from Soundarapuram in Yadadri district was killed during Giri Pradakshina at Arunachalam, Tiruvanmmalai.
Two Tamilians demanded Rs 500 from him. When Vidyasagar refused to give, they slit his throat and ran away. Vidyasagar was rushed to the government hospital by fellow devotees. But Vidyasagar succumbed to the injury.
Going into details, two persons came on a two-wheeler and hit Vidyasagar. Following that, there was exchange of words between them. The two boys took out a knife they had with them and stabbed Vidyasagar multiple times.
Guganeswaran (22), Tamilarasan (25) were arrested for murder. The devotees alleged that there were negative feelings against Telugus during Arunachalam Giri Pradakshina.
The devotees are concerned that such a violent incident occured at an auspicious place and the need for security. Tiruvanmmalai police are investigating the case.
The case has highlighted the need for heightened security even in pilgrim centers. Devotees from both Telugu states, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, are in shock after news spread about the incident.
