The Enforcement Directorate is expected to issue fresh summons to Tollywood actors named in the illegal online gaming scam. It seems these actors may face legal action again, even though the case appeared to have cooled off earlier.
Actors Vijay Devarakonda, Lakshmi Manchu, Prakash Raj and Rana Daggubati were already questioned by the ED. Now, the focus has shifted to online gaming companies involved in the case.
The current investigation will trace the flow of funds, the apps used, and how the money was diverted to various promoters and players. The actors had stated they were unaware of the legal risks and denied promoting illegal betting apps or receiving any financial benefit.
Despite their claims, new summons are likely to be sent soon. In the financial year 2024, losses from online games reportedly touched Rs 22,000 crore.
Recently, former cricketer Yuvraj Singh and Bollywood actor Sonu Sood were also summoned by the ED for promoting illegal betting platforms.
Meanwhile, the Government of India passed the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, in August to tighten control over the online gaming sector.
