A major political transition unfolded at Thiruvananthapuram’s Central Stadium today morning. Senior Congress leader V.D. Satheesan took the oath as the 13th Chief Minister of Kerala, officially ending a decade of Left Democratic Front (LDF) rule in the state.
Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath to Satheesan and his council of 20 cabinet ministers. The mega event was attended by thousands of party workers and top national Congress brass, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi.
This historic transition follows the UDF’s absolute landslide victory in the 2026 Assembly polls, where the alliance crushed the outgoing Left government by sweeping an overwhelming 102 out of 140 seats. The heavy defeat officially brought down the curtain on former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s historic ten-year consecutive run.
Breaking traditional patterns of staggered cabinet expansions, the new United Democratic Front (UDF) administration opted for a complete one-go lineup. Immediately following the colourful ceremony, the newly sworn-in ministers headed straight to the State Secretariat to chair their very first official policy meet.
