Finance Minister Eetela Rajendra had tabled the state budget for 2015-16. The government had put up a grand budget with surplus of 531 Crore. However the grand budget had very meager allocations for KCR’s dream projects, Mission Kakatiya and Water Grid. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao made several tall promises of giving drinking water to every household in the next five years. KCR even promised not to ask votes in the next elections if the promise is not fullfilled.
According to the government estimates, Water Grid and Mission Kakatiya will cost 48000 Crores to the state which means the state government had to allot 12000 Crore per year till the elections. However Telangana government has alloted only 4000 Crore for Water Grid and 8000 Crore for Mission Kakatiya and Irrigation put together.
Which means Telangana government allocated approximately 5000 Crore for both these projects. If the government continues allotting 5000 Crore every year for these projects, they are not expected to complete at least before 2025. Only KCR can tell how these meager allocations will be enough!
