
A long cherished wish of Coasta people, finally orders have been passed by the union government for four divisions with Vizag as the headquarter for south coasta railway zone.
Vizag, Vijayawada, Guntur, Guntakal divisions will fall under the zone. The orders have fulfilled the aspirations of north Andhra people said MP Sribharat.

He pointed out it was another victory for the alliance government. He lauded it was a milestone for Vizag railways. He added that it was indeed nice to rename Waltair as Visaka division.
Till now, Waltair division was in Odisha. But the people of north Andhra were hoping for the union government to retain it as part of south coasta railway zone.

In fact, MP Sribharat had requested Union Minister Vaishnaw to retain the historic zone in its original form. The Waltair division’s freight revenue generation must be protected, the MP had asked.
The division was not just of administrative value, but held a sentimental value for north Andhra people. It was felt that splitting of Waltair division would diminish regional identity.

Post the split, one part of Waltair division was to be under Vijayawada and another fell under Odisha’s East Coast Railway.
Now, the Center retained the Waltair division, but named it as Vizag division which has clarified many doubts in people’s minds, he said.
Waltair division had a history of 132 years and the renaming was a huge step said Sribharat. Top class infrastructure and commute facilities will be provided by this decision, the MP shared.
