Ex MLA and YSRCP leader Gopireddy Srinivasa Reddy pushed the blame on to the much-hyped volunteer system during YSRCP term for their defeat. He said point blank that volunteers were the reason for YSRCP’s defeat in 2024 Assembly elections.
Gopireddy was speaking at the YSRCP meet in Narasaraopeta. He revealed that when he met Jagan for the first time after defeat, he had told the YSRCP chief that they lost the elections due to the volunteers.
We spent Rs 2,70,000 crore on welfare schemes and they were handed out by the volunteers. Instead of focusing on the karyakartas, prominence was given to volunteers.
Jagan reminded me that it was the leaders who selected volunteers. I told him that was the mistake. Volunteers became direct point of contact.
We relegated the karyakartas and leaders to the back bench. So, a chasm was created between people and the party. This led to volunteers coming up and karyakartas being neglected.
We should have invested time and resources in our karyakartas. Our leaders also could not go to people for votes saying they did the work.
The entire party set-up has become messy due to the volunteer system, said Gopireddy Srinivasa Reddy.
