Why No CBI Inquiry on Amaravati Insider Trading?

Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly had adopted a resolution to conduct an inquiry into the ‘large scale insider trading’ allegedly carried out by the previous Chandrababu Naidu government before announcing Amaravati as the capital post bifurcation.

Home Minister Sucharita moved the resolution and after it is adopted she announced that the Government will probe the allegations with an Independent Agency. The Home Minister also added that the Cabinet Sub-Committee found Insider Trading in around 4070 acres in the Capital Region.

It is interesting to note that the Government is saying that it will not deploy CBI in this case. Opposition TDP alleges that CBI inquiry is not being called because there is no prima facie evidence in the case. Rumors are that a Lokayukta Inquiry may be conducted on this issue.

“We are not afraid. There is no substance in YSR Congress’ Government allegations. These allegations are brought up only to defame Amaravati. So that the Government can get a reason to shift the capital out of here,” MLC and TDP General Secretary, Nara Lokesh says.
