Why Separate Railway Zone demand is justified?

Separate Railway Zone as Vishakapatnam headquarter is a demand pending for several years. BJP had promised to grant the Special Zone before 2014 elections. It prompted a lesser known leader like Haribabu to emerge as giant killer defeating YSR Congress honourary President, Vijayamma. But BJP disappointed people in another Railway budget.

Waltair Railway division got disappointing allocation yet again. East Coast Railway Zone got 4682 Crore allotted in the budget. But Waltair division only managed to get 173.34 Crore worth projects. Interestingly the division contributes more than 50% income to the railway zone but the allocations are always poor.

On Average, Waltair division contributes 6700 Crore revenue and 450 Crore from passengers. Odisha projects in the East Coast Zone got allocations of 1088.95 Crore. These projects connects some places of Odisha to Vizianagaram is solace of some sort. This kind of poor allocations over the years is reason for the Separate Railway Zone demand.
