YS Avinash Reddy Detained Amid ZPTC, MPTC Nominations

Kadapa MP and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader YS Avinash Reddy was reportedly taken into preventive custody by police near the YSRCP office in Kadapa on Thursday, October 22, amid the nomination process for ZPTC and MPTC elections in Andhra Pradesh.

According to initial reports, police detained Avinash Reddy as a precautionary measure to prevent possible law-and-order problems during the filing of nominations.

The reported action comes amid political tensions in Kadapa district, where TDP and YSRCP workers have been involved in confrontations over the local body election process.

On Wednesday, police prevented Avinash Reddy and YSRCP supporters from entering the Zilla Parishad office along with candidates seeking to file nominations. The incident led to arguments and scuffles between police and party workers.

YSRCP leaders have accused the authorities of preventing their candidates from submitting nomination papers. The party has demanded protection for candidates and intervention by the State Election Commission.

Police have also imposed restrictions on political gatherings in parts of Kadapa district following recent disturbances. Earlier, Avinash Reddy was placed under house detention in Pulivendula during the municipal nomination process.

Further details regarding Thursday’s reported detention, the police station involved and his subsequent release or custody status are awaited.
