Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has directed officials to take strict legal action against a YSRCP leader accused of damaging a newly constructed road under the Palle Panduga programme in Tirupati district.
The incident occurred on the bitumen road connecting Ananthasamudram and Papakkagaripalle villages in Pullampeta mandal. According to officials, nearly 100 metres of the road, constructed at a reported cost of Rs 4.75 crore, was damaged using a tractor.
YSRCP leader Subba Reddy and another individual, Venkata Subba Reddy, have been accused of ploughing up the road, which officials said had been constructed about a week earlier.
Taking serious note of the incident, Pawan Kalyan held a review meeting with senior engineering officials of the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development departments on Monday, October 19.
During the meeting, officials informed him that an FIR had been registered following information received from villagers. They also indicated that further legal action was being initiated against those accused of damaging the road.
Pawan Kalyan directed officials to register cases under applicable non-bailable provisions against those responsible. He maintained that damaging public infrastructure built with taxpayers’ money was unacceptable.
The Deputy Chief Minister also instructed officials to initiate proceedings under the Revenue Recovery Act to recover the financial loss from those found responsible for the damage.
He further directed authorities to investigate whether others were involved in the incident and ensure that everyone found responsible faces legal consequences.
Pawan Kalyan emphasised that roads constructed for public convenience must be protected and that deliberate damage to government property should be dealt with under the law.
The allegations against Subba Reddy and Venkata Subba Reddy remain subject to investigation. No court finding establishing their responsibility has been reported.
