YSR Congress has got a strange logic for demanding the Opposition Status.

They are saying that if Janasena with 6% Vote Share can get the Deputy Chief Minister post, why not Opposition Status for YSR Congress.

This argument serves a dual purpose for YSR Congress. It highlights their cause for the Opposition Status and at the same time, the 6% Vote Share will look too less and will insult Janasena in Public perception.

But this is one of the most absurd logics.

Firstly, on the top of everything, our election system works on number of seats and voting percentage irrelevant.

Janasena has got 21 seats while YSR Congress has got only eleven. Moreover, Janasena won 21/21 seats which is a sensational feat.

Coming to the Vote Share, there is no level playing ground in this 6% And 40% Vote Share comparison.

Janasena contested only in 21 seats while YSR Congress contested in 175 seats.

The correct comparison would be to consider the vote share only in the Twenty one seats where Janasena and YSR Congress contested.

Or we should adopt a methodology to extrapolate Janasena’s numbers to all the 175 seats and compare.

If such a methodology is difficult to find out, we can not see TDP and Janasena differently as they contested together.

If they do not agree to such a scenario, the ideal scenario will be comparing their Vote Share in the twenty one seats where Janasena contested. In such places, Janasena Vote Share would hover around a staggering 50-60%.

This is a sensational election for TDP and Janasena. It would be better for the YSR Congress to avoid comparisons with those parties and confine itself to boasting its 40% Vote Share.
