The ruling YSR Congress Party is in complete shambles in the Hindupur constituency. The party’s MLC and one of its key leaders in Hindupur, Shaik Mohammed Iqbal, has resigned from the party.
Iqbal resigned from his MLC post as well as the membership of the party. He submitted his resignation officially today. He stated that he was leaving the party on personal grounds with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, rumours suggested that Iqbal was unhappy with Tippegowda Narayan Deepika’s selection as YCP’s MLA candidate for the upcoming elections.
Iqbal contested as YCP’s MLA candidate in Hindupur in the 2019 elections. But he lost to Telugu Desam Party’s Nandamuri Balakrishna. Later, after forming the government, Iqbal was made MLC by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Iqbal expected the party to give him the ticket this time as well. However, Jagan handed it over to Deepika. It was heard that she was given the ticket to bank on the BC votes as well as the woman’s card.
Iqbal was reportedly upset with this move and decided to leave the party with immediate effect. He is yet to reveal his future plan.
