Wednesday morning witnessed a scenario of chaos and fear as more than a hundred schools in the national capital received bomb threats. When the news about the bomb threats spread, parents started rushing to schools to get their kids. Delhi police has confirmed that these threats were a hoax and is investigating further into the case.
The threats were received via email at around 4 AM in the morning by several schools across the Delhi NCR. The fire control room received bomb threat calls from 97 schools by 12 PM. This invited a large-scale search investigation which included bomb squad and sniffer dogs.
The police have traced the source of these hoax emails and believe that they were sent from a location in Russia. Further investigation is underway and the police have requested the parents not to panic as the situation is under control.
A few months earlier, similar threats were received by schools across Bangalore creating a panic situation. That too turned out to be a hoax. The increasing frequency of these cyber hoax emails is concerning as they are targeting sensitive places like schools.
