The success of India and its people is evident to everyone; today, we are a country with a promising future. Even Indian individuals are making a name for themselves in every corner of the world. However, recently, a heartbreaking trend has emerged where Indians are being trolled extensively for various reasons.
A recent Twitter trend reveals that many foreign pages are creating memes about Indians with captions like “Why are Indians so…” followed by derogatory remarks, ranging from perverted to homeless, and even drug addicts. These tweets not only create a negative image of our people but can also be hurtful at times.
Upon closer inspection, it becomes apparent that what’s more concerning is that many videos labeled as Indian are not actually from India. Numerous foreign videos are being misrepresented as Indian solely for the purpose of gaining clout and engagement, exploiting the attention Twitter gives to the term ‘Indian.’
It is unfortunate that Indians are often portrayed in a negative light on social media. Anything depicting Indians unfavorably tends to trend easily, and these individuals are exploiting the trend to garner views and likes.
While it is true that unfortunate incidents can occur in India, it doesn’t justify humiliating the entire nation. Some individuals have identified this issue and are attempting to expose Twitter’s algorithm. Do you also believe this is true? Share your opinion with us.
