Adipurush and The Flash, two big-budget flicks, were released on Friday. While both films have quite distinct themes, they do share one thing in common: they both feature the Hindu deity, Hanuman.
This weekend, DC Comics fans tweeted images of a shot from the American superhero film The Flash, pointing out that the protagonist’s room had a Hanuman poster. Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) invites Iris West (Kiersey Clemons) to his room for a drink in the scene.
A Twitter user posted a screenshot of the still with the caption, “Also, there was Hanuman’s poster in Flash’s room, I thought the theater was going to transition into Adipurush.”
Another remarked, “If you went ahead and watched Adipurush and we’re disappointed that you didn’t get to see Lord Hanuman, well, that’s because he was watching Flash with us.”
People were also curious as to why the set designer picked a Hindu god’s poster for a superhero film that has nothing to do with Hindu mythology. A Twitter user agreed, writing, “In the #Flash movie, Barry Allen has a picture of Lord Hanuman in his room.” Does anyone have a rationale or a reference? #DCFC #TheFlashMovie”.
While Adipurush received unfavorable feedback from both crowds and critics, The Flash received mixed reviews. It’s worth noting that both films have been dogged by controversy.
