Gold has always been seen as a safe investment. With prices soaring, you often prefer storing ornaments in bank lockers instead of at home. But a recent case in Hyderabad has raised tough questions about how secure bank lockers really are.
M. Sridevi from Kalyan Nagar-3 pledged 44 gold ornaments at Karur Vysya Bank on December 4, 2024. During a KYC check, she was shocked to see only 41 ornaments recorded in her account. Three pieces weighing 75.80 grams were missing.
When she complained, the branch manager revealed that staff member Aripaka Satish Kumar had misused pledged gold from her and at least 13 other customers. Sridevi presented photographs of her ornaments and urged police to examine CCTV footage. Borabanda police registered a case.
The case has left people shaken. If homes feel unsafe and banks now face such breaches, where can you keep your valuables? With gold prices climbing higher than ever, protecting it has become one of the biggest concerns for families today.
