Hyderabad: Controversy Over Biryani & Irani Chai

The city of Hyderabad is a marvel indeed. With the people deeply rooted in the cultural soil of the old city and blitzing past the world with its fast-paced lifestyle ruled by pillars of codes, Hyderabad is no less than Dubai.

A reel is going viral, showcasing an airborne view of the majestic city. The view is accompanied by a voiceover piece, in which a pilot glazes the magnificent cityscape and the lifestyle of its population.

From the fast-paced life of Hyderabadi people, where “coding is a second language,” to the world-renowned taste of Biryani, the reel covers it all. The voiceover doesn’t shy away from comparing the grandeur of Hyderabad to Dubai.

However, like everything else on the internet, this beautiful reel managed to somehow offend a certain group of people. A certain X user went ahead to point out that even though the reel was accurate, the end of it serves only the Islamic audience.

The user pointed out that the reel only mentions the taste of Mughlai Biryani and Irani Chai. The user even had a problem with the ever-loved Osmania biscuits. The user called out the reel as a way to propagate Islamic influence.

It is quite problematic. The Hyderabadi Biryani and Irani Chai are not only cultural landmarks regarding the experience of the city but a way of life in itself. The hate on such things is trivial. However, some mention that the Hindu culture of the city rarely gets represented.
