Any cricket World Cup is incomplete with an India-Pakistan encounter. Since the last decade or so, organizers have made sure to put the two nations compete against each other, as it means good business.
The next big event in cricket is this year’s T20 WC in the USA and West Indies. It came as no surprise when India and Pakistan found themselves in the same group once again. The much-awaited game will be played in East Meadow, New York on 9 June.
The tickets for the match are another deal. The initial starting price for the tickets were $6 (around ₹500). The tickets were gone in a flash as expected and now the resale market is booming.
With prices skyrocketing not few folds but hundreds of times in some cases (excluding the platform fee). Websites like SeatGeek and StubHub are reselling the tickets. VIP tickets were sold originally at $400, now one has to pay $40,000 (33 lakhs) in some cases.
The most expensive ticket listed on SeatGeek is at $175,000 (₹1.4 cr) and if the platform fee is added, it will reach ₹1.86 cr.
Whether this is craziness for the sport or someone is just playing with the feelings is a mystery. But, paying this much for Ind VS Pak only demonstrates the value this match holds among fans.
