India To Ban Flight Attendants’ Perfume

Civil aviation authorities all over the world have to adopt a very strict rulebook in order to maintain passenger safety. Some of these are beyond the understanding of common passengers, however essential for the flight’s safety. India is planning to roll out one such new guideline that is already becoming a hot topic. The DGCA is planning to ban pilots and flight attendants from wearing perfume on duty.

The DGCA maintains its own rules regarding alcohol consumption for flight attendants and pilots. A number of substances other than alcohol is also not permitted because it can affect the breath test. They made an update to this rulebook and added perfume with alcohol in this category.

The new proposed guideline reads, “No crew member shall consume any drug/formulation or use any substance such as mouthwash/tooth gel/perfume or any such product which has alcoholic content. This may result into positive breath analyzer test.”

Even though the results of effects of perfume in a breath test are unknown, there is a possibility that it might alter the actual results since perfumes are high on alcohol level. DGCA is inviting public comments on the new policy from the 5th of October.
