iPhone Craze Turns Deadly: Vizag Youth’s Tragic End

Modern aspirations among youth are increasingly shaped by material desires and the growing presence of technology. For many, owning the latest gadgets has become a marker of social status, often overtaking deeper ideas of self-worth or personal identity.

This trend, fuelled by consumer culture and social media, can leave a strong psychological impact—especially on young, impressionable minds. A heartbreaking example of this was recently reported from Visakhapatnam.

In a shocking incident, a young man named Kinne Sai Maruthi Kevin reportedly died by suicide after his parents refused to buy him an iPhone. The incident occurred in Sujatha Nagar, Pendurthi, and serves as a grim reminder of how fragile emotional well-being can become.

When expectations do not align with reality, even something like a mobile phone can feel emotionally overwhelming. For some, it is tied not just to a gadget, but to identity, acceptance, and peer validation.

This tragic case highlights the urgent need for open conversations about mental health within families. Parents need to offer emotional support alongside discipline, while young individuals should be guided to look beyond material possessions for their self-worth.

More importantly, it shows how deeply social media comparisons and consumer-driven lifestyles affect today’s youth. This tragedy must prompt a larger rethink on how we define success, happiness, and aspiration for the younger generation.
