Cricket fans in India frequently argue that the tickets for IPL matches are too expensive. The costs can vary from ₹500 to ₹10,000, depending on the venue and the stand. However, the prices of IPL tickets are cheaper compared to the costs of the Super Bowl, which is the biggest game in American football.
A study report showed that the average price of a Super Bowl ticket this year is $8600 which is approximately 11.7% of the median household income in the United States. This means an average American family would have to pay more than 10% of their annual income to be able to watch it live. But this is not counting the travel, lodging, and meal costs.
The Super Bowl is considered the most watched sporting event in the US, while one of the most popular in the world. It has millions of viewers, celebrities, and advertisers who purchase millions of dollars for 30 second spots during the Super Bowl. The halftime show, which is this year’s event with pop star Usher, is also a major draw for fans.
However, those who choose to feel the adrenaline of the game by themselves will have to pay a considerable amount of money. The lowest priced ticket one can find on a resale ticket website costs $6,077, and the highest one is $125,992. That can buy you a car, a house or even a small island.
Hence the next time you get the feeling that IPL tickets are pricy, think this way. The whole season of IPL matches could be watched with the same money that cost of a single Super Bowl ticket . Or, you can stash the cash and watch the game on TV with the rest of us.
