An incident of sexual exploitation involving a guest faculty member and a professor from the prestigious JNTU in Hyderabad has shocked students and staff. The case came to light recently and has triggered strong demands for the professor’s expulsion.
According to the complaint, the professor first befriended the guest lecturer by claiming they belonged to the same community. He then threatened to remove her from her job and exploited her multiple times.
The complaint states that the professor kept her with him till midnight, which affected her married life and led to her husband deserting her. Living alone thereafter, she was subjected to further physical and emotional harassment. Unable to bear the mental and physical torture, the lecturer approached the police.
The KPHB police have sent the lecturer to remand. Students and faculty members are demanding strict action, saying the professor has spoilt the name of a prestigious institution.
