The LPG shortage in India has become a serious concern as supply disruptions linked to tensions in the Middle East continue to affect fuel availability. Several sectors are facing difficulties, especially food services that depend heavily on cooking gas for daily operations.
Restaurants and some public institutions have reportedly struggled to maintain regular food supply because of the shortage. In some places, organisations have started looking for alternatives that require less cooking fuel or do not depend heavily on LPG.
One such alternative has recently attracted attention on social media. A video from a school in West Bengal has gone viral after it showed students receiving a different type of midday meal due to the gas shortage.
In the video, schoolgirls are seen standing in a queue near a golgappa stall. Because the school could not cook regular midday meals without LPG, the students were reportedly served Golgappa, also known locally as Puchka.
The unusual situation quickly sparked reactions from social media users. Some viewers described the moment as a rare treat for the students, noting that the spicy and tangy snack appeared to excite many of the children.
Others used the video to highlight broader concerns about the quality of midday meals in some schools. A few users commented that snacks like Golgappa sometimes appear more appealing than the regular meals served under the scheme.
The viral clip has therefore triggered mixed reactions online. While some see it as a light hearted moment, others believe it reflects deeper challenges related to food supply and school meal programmes in certain regions.
