A 26-year-old man named Gurdeep Singh has been arrested in Bengaluru for secretly filming women in public without their knowledge or permission. He was allegedly uploading these videos to his Instagram account, which had started gaining attention.
The incidents occurred in the KR Puram area, where Gurdeep would position himself at busy streets and public spots to quietly record women passing by.
These videos were later shared on social media under hashtags like Street Fashion or Style Watch, presenting them as content on modern dressing or street trends.
While the videos may not have contained explicit or offensive language, they were recorded without the women’s consent which makes them a serious invasion of privacy. The women featured in the clips were unaware they were being filmed, and their faces were clearly visible in many posts.
Bengaluru police acted after receiving a complaint from a concerned citizen who came across the videos online.
During the investigation, officers traced the account to Gurdeep Singh and arrested him from his residence. His phone, camera equipment, and Instagram account were seized as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Authorities have booked him under various sections of the Information Technology Act and other laws protecting the dignity and rights of women.
Police stated that such behaviour, even if not physically threatening, contributes to a climate of discomfort and fear for women in public spaces.
This case has sparked conversation around ethical content creation and the unchecked misuse of social media.
Police have advised the public to report such actions and reminded content creators that recording someone without permission is both unlawful and unethical.
Consent, they stressed, is not optional it is the foundation of respect in any civil society.
