Pratham Powai, a college student from Mumbai, hanged himself two months ago after getting blackmailed by his ex-girlfriend.
His father had complained about the girl but it took police this long to book the ex-girlfriend. She had demanded Rs 1 lakh or she would file a false complaint against him.
Earlier this year, Pratham was jailed on the charges of stalking his ex-girlfriend. He had to spend three months before he could get the bail. As soon as he got out, his ex threatened him with a second complaint.
Currently, no arrests have been made as it is still being investigated.
This sounds like a story we have read several times before. Many of them have the same ending, men face extreme actions against them even on a single complaint, but when the opposite happens, there is a massive delay from the entire system, which has led to an increase in fear among men.
How will it be fixed? No one knows, because hardly many care about it. But, false accusations against men are a serious issue that needs to be addressed on an immediate basis.
