Poonam Pandey, the model, known for her boldness for years was declared dead yesterday due to cervical cancer. People started sending their condolences to the actress and everywhere you look, Poonam’s news was there. But, as it turned out, it was a publicity stunt! She faked her death to ‘raise awareness for cervical cancer’. The justification came and netizens are in no mood to accept this act of lowliness.

Apart from being funny, this raises serious concerns over Poonam’s credibility and this culture of using fake news for one’s benefit. Poonam has not only shown how unethical she has become to gain the limelight but if anything happens to her in the future, not many would believe it. Fake news is a big problem that has led to several controversial situations and many lives have been destroyed in the process. If the celebrities start endorsing it, it will become even more difficult to counter.
