The central government won’t let this happen. In a directive statement, the government has issued an order stating that copyright infringement will not be considered legal.
Previously, copyright societies used to take royalties from the performance of musical works at weddings under Section 52(1) of the Copyright Act 1957. The Department of Promotion, Industry, and Trade (DPIIT) says that Section 52(1)(za) mentions the performance of any musical work in a religious ceremony as not being a copyright issue.
And as marriages are considered an integral part of religious ceremony therefore the laws of copyright infringement can’t be applied here.
This decision is a great initiative for the general public and is welcomed as a beautiful gesture towards the public.
