The actress who rose to fame with Luv Ranjan’s “Pyaar Ka Punchnama” series was praised for her role in Ayushmann Khurrana’s “Dream Girl” in 2019. This movie eventually became one of the hits of that year. After four years, its makers, Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor, are back with its sequel, “Dream Girl 2.” However, this time most of the cast remains the same, except for Nushrratt Bharuccha, who is being replaced by Chunky Panday’s daughter, Ananya Panday.
Although the sequel also features new additions such as Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav, this change has left the original “Dream Girl” actress sad. She had also wanted to act in the movie, but being replaced by someone who is relatively less experienced, just because she’s a nepo-kid, has deepened her sorrow.
“I was a part of ‘Dream Girl 1,’ and I really enjoyed working with the entire team. I have fond memories of that time. However, they didn’t cast me in ‘Dream Girl 2,’ and I feel only they can explain why. I don’t know; there’s no logic to it and no answer. But why didn’t they cast me? I’m human, so it definitely hurts. Undoubtedly, this feels wrong. But I understand, it’s their decision. Well, no problem,” said Nushrratt.
This has once again ignited the debate about nepotism, with the topic of star kids getting opportunities even after multiple failures. Ananya Panday failed to impress audiences in her last two ventures, “Liger” and “Khaali Peeli.” On the other hand, Nushrratt, who consistently showcased her talent in movies like “Chhori” and “Janhit Mein Jaari,” even in films that didn’t perform well, has been replaced in a franchise, raising questions about the makers’ intentions.
