OYO Unmarried Couple Ban: Next Bangalore?

After OYO banned unmarried couples from using the hotel in Meerut, Tejas Gowda, a Bengaluru activist called for the same in Karnataka.

A former Bajrang Dal district coordinator and pro-Hindu activist, Tejas has called for a ban on unmarried couples staying in homestays, lodges, eateries, service apartments, and hotels not only in Bangalore but all over Karnataka.

He claimed that such institutions encourage couples to engage in immoral behaviour that causes discomfort for families visiting these locations.

Such indecent behaviour undermines our social standards, he said.

Tejas filed a letter to the Director General of Police, claiming that unmarried couples have access to these institutions, which leads to illegal acts within the rooms and tarnishes the name of such establishments.

The letter further stated that such activities are frequently reported on weekends under the cover of trips, long drives, birthday parties, bachelor parties, etc.

He said that such actions are necessary to protect societal values and prevent the further decline of moral standards.

OYO has recently banned its Meerut partner hotels from allowing unmarried couples. Based on the ground input, it feels like this would soon spread to other cities as well.

Some people are concerned that while this action might seem necessary on paper to stop illegal activities from taking place, it could also backfire. Such activities will stop in these institutions and might start to descend on parks, roads, and trains.

A lot of pent-up social frustration leads to crime, which could see a rise if this ban is seen nationwide.
