Indian Influencer’s Korea Nightmare: ‘Treated Like Criminal’

Indian influencer Sachin Awasthi has alleged that he was detained for 38 hours in South Korea. He described the experience as humiliating and said he was treated like a criminal despite committing no known offence.

Awasthi claimed the detention was carried out by South Korean immigration officials without a clear explanation. He said he was not given access to legal counsel during the prolonged questioning.

According to Awasthi, the conditions during detention were degrading and mentally stressful. He alleged repeated interrogations and limited communication throughout the 38 hour period.

He said the treatment felt inhumane at times. Awasthi added that officials behaved as if he were a dangerous offender rather than a visiting influencer.

After returning to India, Awasthi shared his experience with the media. His statements have sparked widespread criticism on social media platforms.

Many users questioned how a foreign visitor could be detained for such a long duration without formal charges. Followers argued that the lack of transparency raises concerns about fair treatment of international travellers.

Several commentators described the handling of the case as harsh and unprofessional. They questioned whether authorities explored less extreme alternatives to address their concerns.

So far, South Korean authorities have not publicly explained the reason behind the detention. The absence of an official statement has further fuelled criticism, with many insisting that no individual should face criminal like treatment without clear cause.
