Ivory Coast footballer, Dairrassouba Hassane Junior was brutally beaten by the natives from Malappuram, Kerala on March 10th 2024.
The West African footballer plays for Jawahar Mavoor to play sevens football. Sevens football is a type of football game which has seven players on each side. The participation of the African countries in this game is a major attraction for Malappuram and northern districts of Kerala.
The attacked footballer complained to the Malappuram district police that their team was leading the match by one goal. When he went to the corner to score a goal. He heard slurs coming from the audience, and when he turned to look at them one of the spectators threw a stone towards him. And following that one stone several other stones came.
In order to save his life he ran away from the ground when the natives attacked him and brutally beat him up. Slurs like “Monkey” and “Black Cat” came from the audience. It is very shameful to see that despite having 99% literacy this is how a guest gets treated.
This Incident traumatised Hassane very deeply as he said , “I was attacked because of my colour. Me and My race we both feel humiliated.”
