Chief Justice DY Chandrchud, on Thursday, made a historic announcement regarding the initiative to integrate WhatsApp messaging with the ICT (Information and Communications Technology) services of the premiere court.
The service will allow “…advocates to receive automated messages about the filing of cases.. all members of the bar will get causelists as and when published…the number transmits one way communication.” Supreme Court’s official WhatsApp number is 8767687676..
CJI emphasised the effect this step will have on the sustainable development we aspire to achieve. It will result in a reduction in the volume of papers used. Another initiative is the Meghraj Cloud 2.0 which will allow the SC and other e-courts to go online. All the data will be stored on servers in India.
This step opens the gates to a new age for the Indian judiciary as it will result in faster, more efficient and secure sharing of documents. It will also prevent any unnecessary delays in the courts and may help reduce the judiciary’s caseload.
