The actor, director and producer of the movie “Monkey Man”, Dev Patel was actually very ashamed of his Indian roots. By making movies like “Slumdog Millionaire” and “Monkey Man” he is trying not to be ashamed of his Indian roots.
Dev Patel said on an episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, that being brought up in Great Britain, it was not really cool to be from an Indian background, because most of his schooling has been done from London school.
So, by doing movies like Slumdog and Monkey Man he tried to embrace the part he felt ashamed about.
“Monkey Man” is based on Dev’s character, who is a brawler fighter, who got entangled with politics and lost himself in the process. But, after learning about the truth of his mother’s murder, he went on a rampage to eradicate the existence of those who committed the crime, with the help of marginal people. Thus he becomes ‘The Monkey Man’.
The basic story is derived from a very old mythological story of “Lord Hanuman” where he lost himself and forgot about all his power, but then with the people of his followers and countryside people he again regained all his lost powers and came back much stronger.
Monkey Man follows that story only. On its opening week “Monkey Man” already grossed $10.1 million, and because it is a jam-packed action movie, John Wick fans are enjoying it a lot.
Dev said he grew up watching Bollywood, Bruce Lee, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jim Carrey and Jackie Chan, and every single touch of each of these inspirational people are there in the movie. It is a treat for everyone.
Monkey Man’s release date in India is still unclear till this date.
