A wave of memes was created when Prime Minister Narendra Modi went on signing autographs for Taimur and Jeh, sons of Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor. Once the names of the boys were made center stage amid all the contention, it was the simplest gesture that gained viral momentum.
Modi Ji even obliged by signing autographs for Taimur and Jeh, his names which sounded like historical names of individuals, sparked a meme frenzy in social media, turning this wonderful moment of goodwill into a laughing matter for the internet.
Even Modi’s supporters left an open-ended response on making satirical memes about his move. “Bollywood babysitter” filled social media along with jokes about repossessing Taimur, driving home the disjuncture between what Modi did and his support base.
While it was some mistake for many, for others it was Modi Ji’s planned attempt to change his image and gain favor from Bollywood. Whichever it may be, it proved he was capable of grabbing attention by creating controversy and entertainment both at the same time.
The autograph session by Modi Ji proved that he could continue to keep the public’s attention on him even when his acts were being critiqued. Definitely, it ignited viral discourse on the unpredictability of political gestures in the digital era, whether seen as a strategy or a mistake.
