“We Will Rip You Apart” SC Slams Patanjali

Supreme Court

The court case against Patanjali, which has been ongoing since November, took a sharp turn when the Supreme Court rejected the apology given by the company. The case began when the Indian Medical Association filed a lawsuit against false claims in Patanjali’s advertisements.

Following the case, Swami Ramdev and MD of Patanjali, Acharya Balkrishna, had to issue an unconditional apology for the misleading advertisement. Ramdev further pleaded for forgiveness. However, the apology apparently wasn’t sufficient for the court, as Justice Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah not only dismissed it but also expressed their displeasure with the Uttarakhand government for not taking action against the giant pharma company. They also condemned the proceedings after the case was filed and ordered the dismissal of the concerned officer.

The court stated that a mere apology is not enough; consequences must be suffered as well. Since the case was filed, no further such advertisements have been launched.

It takes years to build a company’s image, but a single mistake can ruin everything. Patanjali is a huge brand with a large number of consumers who rely on its products. In that case, if they use such provocative ads, they will not only lose the trust they have built over the years but also have a negative impact on the brand.
