A woman by the name of Jhansi Rani Samuel has left the hotel industry at a standstill following her arrest by the Delhi police on January 13 for allegedly cheating a luxury hotel of approximately Rs 6 lakh.
The unfolding investigation over the case revealed several perplexing details about Jhansi’s stay and her activities during the 15-day residence at the hotel situated in Aerocity, Delhi.
Despite several attempts being made by the police to interrogate her, Samuel has refused to spill details, proving to be uncooperative and leaving authorities puzzled about her motive for staying so near the airport.
In a statement given by a senior police officer, we came to know that Jhansi’s actual address and family details are still not determined and for that the police will now be reaching out to their counterparts in Andhra Pradesh.
Upon investigation, an absurd discovery regarding Samuel’s bank account was made when the authorities found out that she held a meagre 41 rupees. During her stay at the Pullman Hotel, she carried out transactions which amounted to a hilarious sum of Rs 5,88,176 given her bank account.
The statement given by the Hotel’s staff provide some clarity to this peculiar case where they stated that she had presented a fake identity card under the name of Isha Dave at the spa facility and went on to utilize services amounting to over INR 2 lakh.
The Delhi police had initially charged Samuel with the crime of cheating but now further charges have been levied on herinitial charge of cheating, namely sections 419 (punishment for cheating by impersonation), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), and 471 (using a forged document as genuine).
As the legal proceedings continue with the Delhi police striving to unravel the complexities surrounding this intriguing case, the case is certainly one which is going to be studied for.years to come. With the authorities determined to piece together the puzzle it is now only a matter of time for truth to come to the surface and the layers of deception be revealed for the world to witness.
