In a daring incident that left the community stunned, a 23-year-old woman was apprehended by Roseville police after allegedly stealing nearly $2,500 worth of Stanley cups from a local retail store. The incident took place on Wednesday, and authorities later recovered a total of 65 stolen items from the suspect’s car.
According to the Roseville Police Department, store staff observed the woman boldly filling a shopping cart with Stanley cups and making a swift exit without paying. Despite being confronted by employees, the suspect refused to halt and proceeded to load the trunk of her car with the stolen merchandise.
The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, now faces charges of grand theft. A subsequent search of her vehicle unveiled a trove of 65 Stanley products, valued at nearly $2,500. The recovered items included the popular Quenchers, ranging in sizes from the smallest version at $20 to the largest at $60, with the 40-ounce Quencher retailing for $45.
Images shared by the police on Facebook depicted the trunk of the suspect’s car filled with an array of Stanley cups. The post quickly gained traction on social media, with users humorously comparing it to a drug bust.
The Roseville Police Department clarified that the intent behind the viral post was not for internet fame but rather to showcase stolen merchandise for evidentiary value. They emphasized the standard practice of documenting stolen items to aid in inventory and return to the retailer.
While this marks one of the first reported thefts of Stanley cups in the area, the police are using the incident as an opportunity to discourage such criminal behavior. In a Facebook post on Sunday, the department urged the public, stating, “While Stanley Quenchers are all the rage, we strongly advise against turning to crime to fulfill your hydration habits.”
