YouTuber Armaan Malik, who gained attention from his appearance on Bigg Boss OTT 3, has been summoned by a Patiala district court along with his wives Payal and Kritika Malik. The case involves allegations of multiple marriages and hurting religious sentiments. They are set to appear in court on September 2 following petitions by Davinder Rajput, who claims Malik has four marriages in violation of the Hindu Marriage Act, which allows only one marriage for practising Hindus.
Apart from the polygamy allegations, Payal Malik faced criticism for an Instagram video where she dressed as the Hindu goddess Kali. The petitioner alleged that this portrayal insulted religious beliefs and amounted to a punishable offence under Indian law. Following public backlash, Armaan and Payal visited the Kali Mata Temple in Patiala on July 22 to pray and issue a public apology.
The next day, they went to another Kali temple in Mohali where Payal began a seven-day penance involving temple cleaning and rituals. The couple also travelled to Haridwar to seek forgiveness from a religious leader. During this process, Payal fell ill and had to be hospitalized.
Legally, Armaan has been married to Payal Malik since 2011, but his second marriage to Kritika Malik in 2018 is not recognised under Hindu law due to the prohibition of polygamy for Hindus. He was earlier married to Suchitra, from whom he is now divorced. Despite rumours about him converting to another religion, his wife clarified that he remains a Hindu from the Jatt community.
The Malik family remains popular on social media, but this legal battle has brought their unconventional family life into the spotlight, drawing sharp public attention to their personal choices and the legal questions they face.
