India were 193 to win at Lord’s. On paper, it looked easy. But what happened on the final day left fans heartbroken and Sourav Ganguly clearly disappointed.
It wasn’t a dangerous pitch. There was no crazy swing or bounce. All India needed were a couple of solid partnerships. Instead, they collapsed.
Ganguly called it a “missed opportunity” — and you could hear the frustration in his voice.
Ravindra Jadeja stood firm, once again. He fought with grit, trying to take India as close as possible. Even Bumrah and Siraj put up a brave little stand at the end.
But what about the rest? The top order, filled with big names and young hopefuls, didn’t even look like they were trying to hang in. No application. No intent. Just poor shots and soft dismissals.
Ganguly didn’t call anyone out directly. But his words were aimed at the young top order.
“They just needed two solid stands,” he said. That’s it. Two partnerships. In a chase under 200, with time in hand it wasn’t asking too much.
His praise was reserved only for Jadeja. For the rest, his silence said it all. It felt like a message: When pressure comes, who is ready to stand up and take responsibility?
India’s overseas batting collapses aren’t a one-off thing. We’ve seen it before. But this one hurt more because this time, they were ahead.
They had the game in control. England were under pressure. And yet, India gifted it away.
It’s not about technique. It’s about mindset. The willingness to stay, fight and finish the job.
The series is still alive. Two more Tests to go. But the big question is can India bounce back mentally?
Will someone from that top order finally rise when the team needs it most? Or will this be another tour remembered for what could have been? Sourav Ganguly has already spoken. Quietly. But firmly. Now it’s the players’ turn. Will they listen?
